I. In just the first 17 verses of Romans, the word faith is used 6 times, calling the attention of the readers of this book to faith. In reading the first chapter of Romans it is immediately evident that Paul thinks of faith in very high esteem. The dictionary defines faith as: â€Å"belief and trust in and loyalty to God.† Throughout Romans, it is evident that Paul holds living in faith to a high standard, the word and its implications are mentioned often within Paul’s letter to the Romans. In this paper, I will show that Paul emphasizes the role of faith for a Christian lifestyle throughout the book of Romans. I will demonstrate this by looking at some key passages in Romans. II. Before we tackle some larger sections of scripture, we must take a look at how Paul starts this conversation of faith throughout Romans. a. Romans 1:8 Paul says, â€Å"First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.† The Word Biblical Commentary says, â€Å"following his usual practice, Paul’s first act after the formal greeting is to give God thanks for his readers, particularly for their faith.† Paul places an emphasis on his reader’s faith from the get go, the exordium. Paul was known for sometimes using uncommon additions to a typical letter form in his own letter writing; the opening of most letters is quick and simple, but in Romans we see Paul extend this salutation to speak of the faith of his readers, giving thanks.
